Risk of fatal injury resulting from defective airbags
For a number of years, the company Takata has been supplying the automotive industry with airbags containing defective gas generators, which may alter as a result of aging caused by certain climate-related influences (heat and moisture), and could therefore present a danger to you and your passengers in the event of an accident.
In addition to a number of other manufacturers, Volkswagen models are also affected by the global recall campaigns for Takata airbags.
A defective airbag therefore presents a serious safety risk to you and your passengers in the event of an accident. You can find more information here and check whether your vehicle is affected.

What is a VIN and where do I find it?
The VIN (vehicle identification number) is a unique vehicle ID, which is created according to international standards. The 17-digit number is listed in your vehicle documents and at the bottom of your windshield.
Do you need help finding your VIN? Your local dealerships will be happy to help you find out if you are affected.
What is the risk level?
If your airbag is triggered during an accident, the level of pressure generated when the gas generator is ignited may be much too high. This could lead to pieces of metal being propelled through the vehicle interior. This could lead to severe injuries and, should worse come to worst, to fatal injuries.
What do I need to do?
If your vehicle is affected, please contact a Volkswagen service partner without delay so that the components in question can be replaced without delay. This will take about an hour and will be free-of-charge for you.
