| W-EngineVolkswagen presented the W12 Coupé in 2001 in Japan at the Tokyo Motor Show. The heart of this mid-engined coupé is the W12 engine of the same name, which Volkswagen offers in slightly modified form on the Phaeton and the Touareg. The vehicle was constructed in monocoque design with the engine installed longitudinally behind the passenger compartment. The performance of W-engine technology has been impressively proven by countless world records achieved by the W12: the W12 broke nine speed records during a 24-hour drive in Nardo in 2001. A few months later in 2002, the car set five further world records and 12 international class records on the same high-speed circuit. |
